"Do You Know?"

So I'm sitting here semi paying attention Fox News while a plumber is runnning some loud contraption repairing my kitchen sink. I decided to just watch (since I couldn't hear) the promos and commercials, as I'd rather do that than listen to Glenn Beck.

I'm checking out the tube when suddenly I see "Do You Know What Textbooks Your Children Are Really Reading?" That got me thinking about the media and how much of an influence they have on every demographic out there.

Do parents actually need to watch a news segment on the textbooks their kids have? Do the children not have homework, hence bringing their books home? Sure they do, but I guess parents can't actually see the materials their kids are reading. It's so much easier to simply check out a seven minute news piece telling us what to do.

  1. So at the end of the day, the news is there to entertain us and inform us as to what is going on in OUR LIVES! Isn't it ironic? They tell us what our kids are reading, yet it is sad that some parents might need that piece to inform them of what their kids are doing, it is very sad, yet it is reality!

  2. You're right. it seems like most women like to be told what to do, shows such as Oprah and Dr Phil make good ratings. And if women are not buying those magazines telling them what to wear, how ugly they look, how much weight is good, when to tell if their man is cheating, then no one will be making them. Some men also feel insecure of their manhood, after watching Extense commercials, and shows telling them how to treat a lady.

A girl friend of mine had a baby recently, she had to study up online....on how to raise a baby...lol.

  4. This is so true. So many people depend nearly 100 percent on the various media to tell them everything they need to know, including anything they need to know about THEIR OWN child's textbooks. People have become so lazy that they can't even spend a little time being involved in the child's schoolwork or else they would already know what their children are REALLY reading. This is just another great example of how significant the influence of media can be among the part of the public that would rather someone else be the expert of their life which leads to further dehumanization.
